Stories with Spirit:
A collaboration of artistry and activism for children with cancer

Soaring Stories and Mira's Movement have joined together to offer songs of love, stories of joy, and a vision of healing and hope to children with cancer and bereaved families and caregivers through live and recorded performances of stories and songs.

Many parents shudder at the mere thought of having a seriously ill child. However tens of thousands of children and their families are affected by cancer each year. Children undergoing treatments spend their precious childhood in bed, in the car, and on the couch.  Stories with Spirit will bring stories and songs to these children in hospitals, homes, and hospices through live performances.  The first portion of the project, the CD Stories with Spirit: The Belly Button Tour, is complete and ready to take on the road!

Regina Carpenter

On October 2-4, 2009 , Regi Carpenter, award-winning storyteller, educator, and singer, is going to stand before more than 15,000 story lovers at the National Storytelling Festival in Jonesborough, Tennesee, and perform the Stories with Spirit stories and songs. This event brings an incredible opportunity to debut the Stories with Spirit program.  Regi has been in the studio recording.  We have talented professionals donating their time and talents to bring this project to life—but we still need you. We need your financial support to bring this program to kids with cancer in hospitals.

Can you help us?

Pediatric oncology facilities don't have funding to pay for such programs, which are a welcome alternative to children in the hospital, attempting to distract and occupy themselves from their physical situation day in and day out while they receive treatment. Stories with Spirit not only provides a unique healing activity, but a lesson in ongoing laughter and creativity through storytelling.

Proceeds from the sale of CDs will continue to fund the Stories with Spirit project, which will include these performances in hospitals as well as weekend programs for bereaved families. You will be helping to launch a program that will bring healing to many. Your donation is fully tax-deductible.
